Onfido: The industry will have to adapt to changing regulation

With only eight days to go until this year’s Betting on Sports, we have been catching up with some of the sponsors for the upcoming event. 

Speaking to James Hiller, Business Development Manager at Onfido, who discussed the overarching effects that regulations are having on the industry, and how this has impacted sports betting partnerships. 

What are you looking forward to at Betting on Sports?

The interesting thing will be understanding how the industry is reacting to the changing regulation and what their plans are for the next 12-18 months as the market grows but the pressures intensify. 

What are you promoting at Betting on Sports?

Onfido will be promoting it’s Identity Verification solutions to help operators verify the Identity and Age of it’s customers both from an account opening and also from the ongoing account re-authentication perspective. We also will be promoting our innovative new “Known Faces” solution which will help operators with Bonus Abusers and Problem Gamblers. 

What industry innovation will capture the most attention in 2019?

User experience will continue it’s trend of driving the greatest returns for the operators and as such the solution that best helps that experience will win. 

Which sports betting operator has impressed you the most in 2019?

There has been a lot of pressures with the regulation changes this last year and so many of the operators who have been able to adjust and continue to provide a world class service to their customers would be impressive to Onfido. To that extent GVC and PaddyPower Betfair have been the ones to catch the eye. 

What sports betting partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?

I don’t think I have seen one that stands out but as a keen horse racing enthusiast the partnership between Kindred and Cheltenham Racecourse is a positive one. 

If you could attend one sporting event, what would it be?

The ultimate sporting events for me are the HeavyWeight Boxing matches. I would love to be at the next AJ fight. He might not win but he is always exciting!
