Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development, the operator of Monmouth Park, secured his place in sports betting history as the man who spearheaded the fight to make sports wagering legal in New Jersey and ultimately throughout the US.
He waged a near seven-year legal battle to overturn the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), with the US Supreme Court eventually finding in his favor on May 14, 2018. The decision opened the doors for legalized sports betting across the country after being restricted to a mere four states since the Act was enacted in 1992.
Drazin, is a racehorse owner of note and took over the reins at Monmouth Park in 2012. He has been a long-established advisor to the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and served as chairman of the New Jersey Racing Commission in 2009.
