SBC Summit Rio Spotlight: Rafael Marchetti Marcondes, Rei do Pitaco

SBC Summit Rio Spotlight: Rafael Marchetti Marcondes, Rei do Pitaco

Rei do Pitaco ‘s Legal Director , Rafael Marchetti Marcondes , is part of this special edition of the SBC Summit Rio Spotlight , where speakers from the upcoming SBC event share a glimpse of how they perceive the new regulated gaming and betting market in Brazil.

Since January 1st of this year, the regulated online gaming and sports betting sector in Brazil has been up and running, creating a unique business opportunity. Thus, key players emerging from the same market, such as Rei do Pitaco, have a special role that must be known in order to understand the development of this giant.

SBC News: Rafael, before your participation as a speaker at SBC Summit Rio, can you share with our readers how you think this year will be for the sports betting industry in Brazil?

Rafael Marchetti Marcondes : It is a pleasure to talk about the future of the sports betting industry in Brazil, especially as a speaker at SBC Summit Rio 2025. Based on current trends and the initial phase of market regulation, we anticipate a year full of potential growth.

While the market is still in its early stages, as more regulations are being put in place and more operators are entering the scene, the outlook is optimistic. Clear guidelines for operators and enhanced player protection are laying the groundwork for a more structured and healthy market. We expect significant progress in both adoption and compliance as the sector matures and builds trust with both players and regulators.

SBC News: The government has suggested that if the industry does not perform as they expect, they could revoke the legislation. Is this a concern for operators like Rei do Pitaco?

RMM : The government’s caution regarding the sector’s progress, suggesting the possibility of revoking legislation if it does not meet expectations, is a concern for operators. However, it is important to remember that regulation has only just begun to take effect and we are still in the adaptation phase to these new rules. Companies are focusing on complying with the regulatory framework, ensuring that they adhere to the guidelines set out to create a sustainable environment for both the private sector, players and the State.

The key will be to continue to demonstrate the benefits of a regulated market, such as greater security for players and greater transparency in operations, which should help mitigate concerns about regulatory changes.

SBC News: Is there anything companies can do to prevent restrictive changes being pushed through as has happened in other countries?

RMM : In terms of the possibility of restrictive changes, such as those seen in other countries, operators can take proactive steps to defend the sector. This involves maintaining open communication with regulators, demonstrating the positive social and economic impacts of a regulated betting industry, and engaging with stakeholders to ensure that regulation reflects the interests of a healthy market.

Public perception is crucial and companies must ensure they align themselves with responsible gaming practices and positively contribute to the national discourse on gaming regulations.

SBC News What can events like SBC Summit Rio 2025 do for the industry in the new Brazilian market landscape?

RMM : Events like this provide an invaluable platform for industry leaders, such as Rei do Pitaco, to come together and discuss the direction of the market. At the start of this new regulatory framework, it is crucial for stakeholders to share ideas, highlight success stories and collaborate on solutions to overcome challenges.

Furthermore, it fosters an environment in which the industry can strengthen its foundation and create a solid network of operators, regulators and players committed to market growth.

SBC News: What are Rei do Pitaco’s plans and expectations for 2025?

RMM : For Rei do Pitaco, the outlook for 2025 is focused on expanding our operations, always guided by customer experience. Our goal is to continue offering a top-notch product, developed by Brazilians for Brazilians, ensuring that our audience’s needs are met in a personalized and efficient manner.
