SBC First Pitch, SBC Summit Eligibility and Rules

 

Disclaimers:

The Organisers reserve the right to disqualify any applicant, registrant, candidate, or finalist for any reason at any time, including but not limited to the violation of competition rules, engaging in conduct unbecoming to the Organisers, or behaving in any manner that is not aligned with goals of the Organisers.

 

Eligibility:

  • Overall eligibility:
    •  Company must have be founded no earlier than 2021
    • Company must be focused on the sports betting or iGaming industry
    • Company must not have received more that €5 million in funding
    • At least one representative from the company must be at the event at their own expense, to present at the pitch competition

 

Pitch Competition Rules:

  • There is no fee for entry
  • Startups will submit electronic applications at sbcevents.com/sbc-summit/first-pitch
  • A short list of 5 finalists will be selected
  • The 5 finalists will be notified and asked to confirm their travel plans and agreement to pitch at SBC Summit 
  • In the event that any of the 5 finalists are unable to attend, alternates will be notified promptly
  • Finalists are expected to bear their own expenses in relation to traveling to the conference. 2 complementary admissions to SBC Summit will be provided to each pitching company
  • The pitch competition will take place (exat time TBC) the conference
  • Each finalist will have six minutes total on stage, 3 minutes to present and 3 minutes to field Q&A

 

Competition Timeline:

  • Friday, 28th June 2024  – Applications Due by midnight CEST
  • Monday 2nd  July  2024 – Finalists Notified 
  • Friday 20th September – Presentations Due by noon CEST
  • Wednesday 25 September  – Pitch Competition in Lisbon

 

Confidentiality:

Applicants should have no expectation of confidentiality in regards to the materials they submit or the presentations performed at the pitch competition. Materials should provide an overview of the business and team without containing any proprietary information or trade secrets. No responsibility will be accepted for preventing competitors, audience members, judges, sponsors, or others from sharing information pertaining to the pitch competition and specific companies related thereto. NDAs, non-compete agreements, and other similar arrangements can not be used to compel judges or other pitch competition stakeholders in any way. Applicants should consult with an attorney prior to entering the applicant pool and competition. Submissions may be shared with other investors supporting First Pitch.

 

Photos and Videos:

The Organizers may take photographs and/or video of any of the materials used or made available during the competition as well as of the presenters themselves to be used for promotional and commercial purposes. Any content presented by participants will be considered having been publicly disclosed by that participant. Participants should consider excluding proprietary information and trade secrets from these materials and presentations and consult with an attorney with any specific questions.

  • What is the SBC First Pitch competition?
    • A Shark Tank/ Dragons Den-style competition, held at the leading sports betting and iGaming event, SBC Summit
  • What are the benefits to applying?
    • Finalists will be competing to win a package of prizes as stated on the website.
    • Finalists will also benefit from publicity surrounding the event, feedback provided during the competition, and the impression made upon conference attendees.
    • Finalists will receive two free admissions to the SBC Summit 2024 event, including access to all conference sessions and the opportunity to network with other attendees.
  • Is my startup eligible to apply even if it has raised money already?
    • Yes, startups who have already raised money, but not more than €5 million in outside financing, are eligible to apply.
  • What can I win from participating?
    • Details on the prize package for the overall winner can be found on 
  • When is the application deadline?
    • The deadline to apply is midnight CEST on Friday, 28th June 2024
  • How can I apply?
  • Is there a fee to apply?
    • No. The application to the pitch competition is completely free. However, finalists will need to cover their own travel costs to attend the competition in-person (complementary admission to SBC Summit will be provided)
  • Do I need to be able to attend in-person?
    • Yes, all finalists will be required to participate in the competition in-person, and to travel to the event location at their own expense
  • How does the selection process work?
    • A panel of venture capitalists and industry experts will consider a number of factors in narrowing the list of applicants in order to select the Finalists. In general, companies that provide the clearest evidence of their future impact on the market will be favored.
  • When will the finalists be selected?
    • The finalists will be selected and notified by Monday, 15th July 2023.
  • If I am selected as a finalist, what happens next?
    • Once selected as a finalist, you will be asked to confirm your travel plans toSBC Summit, and then be provided with a schedule of events, including details pertaining to the rehearsal and Run of Show.

Force Majeure:

The Organizers shall not be liable for any losses, damages, including consequential damages, delays or failures to perform in whole or in part resulting from causes beyond the control of either party including, but not limited to, acts of God, acts or omissions of supplier, fires, strikes, insurrections, riots, embargoes, delays in transportation, inability to obtain supplies, or requirements or regulations of any government or other civil or military authority, including any COVID- or public health-related mandates or restrictions.
