Gordon Moody Association: Responsible gambling should be an area of collaboration not competition

With one week to go until the inaugural SBC Digital Summit Latinoamérica, we have been catching up with our sponsors to find out what they are looking forward to.

Matthew Hickey, CEO of Gordon Moody Association, told SBC that he is excited about the opportunity to develop new partnerships across Latin America.

The session “Behind the scenes of Brazil’s new regulatory framework” stood out for Matthew Hickey as he explained GMA’s international service Gambling Therapy receives more calls from Brazil than any other country.

What are you looking forward to at the SBC Digital Summit Latinoamérica?

Key for us is to develop key partnerships, so we are looking forward to networking, and engaging with the senior executives attending.

What would be your biggest bit of advice for betting and gaming businesses trying to mitigate the impact of COVID-19?

There will be individuals who during covid have experienced attentional personal issues, and hence are struggling with their gambling.

I would urge with the industry to work with us to help support those who have had a negative covid experience and need support to deal with their issues, whether that be addiction or heading toward addiction

What are you promoting at SBC Digital Summit Latinoamérica?

We are promoting our digital support platform for those dealing with gambling addictions, Gambling Therapy.

What industry innovation will capture the most attention in 2020?

Bet buddy from Playtech is a fantastic innovation and responsible gambling tool which tracks player data and detects harmful play. It is vital for the industry with increased online play to use AI and other tools to quickly identify signs of gambling harm.

Which operator has impressed you the most in 2020?

It would be unfair for us to single out any one operator but we are encouraged at Gordon Moody by many operator’s increased willingness to work with us and support us in providing treatment for those most affected by problematic gambling.

What partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?

It is encouraging to see operators working together to tackle the issue of gambling related harm. Best practices around safer gambling should be shared and not used by companies to gain a competitive edge.

It was good to see SBG, Playtech, GVC and SG gaming working with the UK Gambling Commission to address safer gambling standards.

Which parts of the conference agenda have caught your eye?

We are looking forward to the networking opportunities and the chance to be able to promote our services to companies in Latin America virtually. The session “Behind the scenes of Brazil’s new regulatory framework” is of particular interest for our international Gambling Therapy service as we receive more calls from Brazil than any other country.
