Former England international goalkeeper David James faced down industry sharpshooters in the SBC Penalty Shootout at Stamford Bridge, the home of SBC Eventsβ annual Betting on Football Conference.
James, who sits second in the list of goalkeepers for most Premier League clean sheets with 169 in 572 matches and capped 53 times for England, faced strikes from industry representatives in a penalty shootout competition which was ultimately won by Betradarβs Chris Wedemeier.
In the first round, only Wedemeier, Golden Raceβs William Charalambous and Trustlyβs Sam Barrett could find a way past the former Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper.
The next stage of the competition saw several successful attempts apiece for Wedemeier and Charalambous, before Wedemeier struck the decisive blow, bringing back memories of Ricardoβs quarter final shootout winner at Euro 2004 for the dayβs star goalkeeper.
Betradar may have been crowned the winners, with Wedemeier taking home a Chelsea shirt signed by James, but this proved to be a great treat for all of the 15 industry guests who earned entry to the penalty shootout through SBCβs ticket competition at ICE 2017.
The other SBC Penalty Shootout participants were Betcartβs Joao Amaro, BetOnBrazilβs Craig van Flute, CalvinAyreβs Rebecca Liggero, eMerchantPayβs Chris Smart and Mark Bell, Favbetβs Nikos Chalikias, VSoftCoβs Simon Westbury, Trustlyβs Nicholas Tucker, Oddslifeβs Alexandru Teodorescu, OPTIMAβs David MacΓas, SBC Globalβs Rasmus Sojmark and Secure Tradingβs Paul Gent.
SBC Founder Rasmus Sojmark commented: βWe had a great time on the Stamford Bridge pitch and David James was a great guy to be involved in the fun. Congratulations to Betradar and Chris Wedemeier, who managed to extend Germanyβs fine record of penalty success.β
