As we begin to emerge into a ‘new normal’ following the global pandemic, Robin Hutchison, Director of Square in the Air, highlighted just how important it is for betting and gaming companies to ensure that they’re on the front-foot in promoting who they are and what they do.
Ahead of the SBC Summit Barcelona – Digital next week, Robin spoke to SBC about how they will be taking the event as an opportunity to listen to some of the industry’s leading figures and also to promote the work that they do both with PR as well as design and social media.
What are you looking forward to at the SBC Summit Barcelona – Digital?
It’s always great to meet new people, even if only virtually, so the networking will be important. There are some great speakers too. He’s been out of the industry for a while now, but Ralph Topping is always worth listening to on these occasions.
What would be your biggest bit of advice for betting and gaming businesses trying to mitigate the impact of COVID-19?
Keep calm and carry on: there is life beyond Covid. Don’t, under any circumstances, put your marketing on a shelf either. Now more than ever is the time to get on the front foot and tell people who you are or what you do well, whether that’s consumers or business partners.
What are you promoting at SBC Summit Barcelona – Digital?
Ourselves, for a change! We work on behalf of a lot of suppliers and operators in the industry, but the chance to tell those that don’t know is always welcome. I think a lot of people associate us with just the PR and content that we produce and for working closely on editorial with publishers like SBC. But there may be others out there who know a little less about the great design and social media departments that we’ve built up over the last year or so.
It’s not all about the big boys, either. We’re very happy to talk to start-ups and those who are looking for a more cost-effective solution. We’ve helped lots of companies grow from small acorns to some of the industry’s most impressive oaks. The more the merrier.
What industry innovation will capture the most attention in 2020?
Now where did I put my crystal ball…
Which operator has impressed you the most in 2020?
William Hill has been smashing it and it’s been great helping their marketing team with social media content for their customers.
What partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?
I think it’s got to be NetEnt and Red Tiger joining forces. We’re lucky enough to work with both of them and it’s been terrific watching how the industry heavyweight and the disruptor par excellence have forged a great partnership and gone from strength to strength. Assuming the Evolution merger also takes place shortly, they are going to take some stopping!
Which parts of the conference agenda have caught your eye?
There are some great speaking tracks this year and a real variety of content. As ever, matters pertaining to compliance, regulation and the future of the industry will be particularly pertinent, but I’m also looking forward to the educational workshops. You can never know too much.
