United Tote Gaming Services: The betting industry is resilient, but we now need a new way of thinking

The industry has faced a series of challenges in 2020, especially when it comes to navigating the impacts of COVID-19. Ahead of SBC Digital Summit North America, David Bretnitz, Director of Sales & Marketing at United Tote Gaming Services, told SBC that while it has been a challenge, those which can navigate these difficult times will be better off in the future.

What are you looking forward to at the SBC Digital Summit North America?

We are thrilled to be a part of the SBC Digital Summit- North America. Most importantly we are looking forward to the line-up of exceptional speakers, new products, and catching up with many of our colleagues who we have not seen in a while.

What would be your biggest bit of advice for betting and gaming businesses trying to mitigate the impact of COVID-19?

My biggest advice is to remain positive. Obviously this is a challenging time for many but as we have seen time and time again our industry is resilient. While we now require a new way of thinking, a different approach, and in some cases a whole new business plan I am confident this pandemic will make us better individuals and stronger companies. A resurgence is on the way and those who can navigate these difficult times will be better off in the future.

What are you promoting at SBC Digital Summit North America?

United Tote Gaming Services specializes in self-service sports betting kiosks, loyalty kiosks, and gaming terminals. While it is contrary to our beliefs (since we love people!) we feel now more than ever less human interaction is what casinos and betting shops are looking for. Our kiosks provide a turn-key solution for our partners. Additionally, we are able to utilize the most up-to-date cashless systems on the market.

What industry innovation will capture the most attention in 2020?

Self-service and cashless options!

Which operator has impressed you the most in 2020?

While there are several on my short list, Shane August and his company Handle 19 in Washington, DC would be at the top. His vision, determination, and passion for sports betting is unmatched. More importantly, Shane has spent countless hours lobbying for favorable legislation that is inclusive of small businesses. We wish Shane and his team all of the best as they open their first sports book and their continued expansion in other legal betting markets.

What partnership has stood out in the past 12 months?

This may be a popular answer but the Barstool/Penn partnership has stood out the most. It is a unique dynamic between the two companies. Look forward to seeing how Penn leverages the Barstool platform and what sort of success they may have as they navigate the legal sports betting market.

Which parts of the conference agenda have caught your eye?

Regulatory/Licensing and also how companies have/will adapt both during Covid and post Covid.
